PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

The fun part of instructor training is interacting with other course participants while creating friendships that continue long after the course ends. You’ll begin networking with other PADI professionals and begin to explore PADI Pro Diving Jobs worldwide. You’ll also have the opportunity to continue your professional education by participating in specialty instructor courses, which train you to teach exciting scuba diving specialties after your instructor certification.
Course Prerequisites
• Certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor (or equivalent) for a minimum of 6 months
• Minimum 60 logged dives, including experience in deep, navigation & night diving
• Completed EFR Primary Care & Secondary Care training within 24 months (or equivalent)
• Certified diver for at least 6 months
• Minimum age 18
What You Will Learn
You continue to build upon the abilities gained as a PADI Divemaster and PADI Asistant Instructor to organize and supervise scuba diving activities, while further developing your teaching skills. During the course you’ll specifically learn how to apply the PADI System of Education.
You learn through additional:
• Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures & presentations
• Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops & presentations
• Open water workshops & candidate presentations
Performance Requirements
PADI scuba diving certification training is performance-based, not time-based. To achieve certification, you will need to:
• Complete Knowledge Development segments during interactive classroom sessions. Independent learning requirements may also be met via PADI Instructor Development online training.
• Successfully present one Knowledge Development teaching presentation.
• Succesfully present two Confined Water (pool) teaching presentations
• Successfully present one integrated (two skills) Open Water teaching presentation.
• Successfully complete the dive skills assessment.
• Successfully complete the PADI Dive Theory Exams. Knowledge of dive theory may also be completed via PADI Dive Theory online.
• Successfully complete a non-stop 800 yd swim with mask, snorkel & fins.
Note: Minimum of 100 logged dives and certification as an EFR Instructor or equivalent is required before certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
Course Format
Open Water Scuba Instructor courses include multiple classroom, pool and open water training sessions. These are typically scheduled to be conducted immediately before PADI Instructor Examinations.
